When Rachel from Rachel’s Random Resources sent me info on this book’s publication day tour I couldn’t stop marvelling the pretty cover so I knew I had to review it.
I haven’t read any of the books in the previous series so I was keen to see whether I could pick this up as a standalone.
Here is my review of Bella Osbourne’s Coming Home to Ottercombe Bay:
I would just like to say that any book which opens with the main female character returning to her home town on her motorbike gets my vote. Almost immediately I liked the character of Daisy.
What did you think of the cover?
It is a striking cover and makes you think of sunny days by the sea. The cover promised me reading escapism.
What did you think of the blurb?
Daisy Wickens has returned to Ottercombe Bay, the picturesque Devon town where her mother died when she was a girl. She plans to leave as soon as her great uncle’s funeral is over, but Great Uncle Reg had other ideas. He’s left Daisy a significant inheritance – an old building in a state of disrepair, which could offer exciting possibilities, but to get it she must stay in Ottercombe Bay for twelve whole months.
With the help of a cast of quirky locals, a few gin cocktails and a black pug with plenty of attitude, Daisy might just turn this into something special. But can she ever hope to be happy among the ghosts of her past?
I was interested as it didn’t come across as a sugary sweet romance. The inheritance story line sounded interesting and it left me wondering what sort of building generous Great Uncle Reg had left her.
What did you think of the plot?
Daisy is left an old abandoned railway station, which has been turned down for planning permission multiple times and not only this but the conditons of her inheritance stipulate she has to stay in Ottercombe Bay for a whole year. I really liked the idea of inheriting something bizarre like a railway station.
The demons from Daisy’s past were interesting and they helped to make the book a page turner.
The plot focused on the themes of coming home and second chances.
What did you think of the characters?
There was a good cast of characters. Daisy is a nice character although she is at times overshadowed by Tamsyn. I loved Tamsyn, Daisy’s best friend. This character needs a book of her own. She has a way with words and I think could be a lot of fun.
I did love the Pug, Bugsy. A fab animal character who produces a lot of funny moments.
Overall what did you think of the book?
A great summer read! The book was very enjoyable and I will miss Ottercombe Bay. The author crafted the setting well and I could almost feel the sea breeze on my skin. The book surprised me with its intriguing plot, wonderful cast of characters and themes of coming home and second chances.
